The parents of our patients often wonder what can be done to prevent their children from developing cavities. When they ask, our dentist and team often recommend that the child get a dental sealant to protect their teeth from decay.

What is a Dental Sealant?

A dental sealant is a preventive treatment that we offer at Daghlian Pediatric Dentistry & Sokolowski Orthodontics. It is made of clear or tooth-colored resin material, which is then painted onto the surface of the teeth, effectively coating the natural pits and grooves of the tooth surface. This makes cleaning the teeth easier and more effective with normal brushing. It also can help block bacteria and food debris that lead to decay.

Who Should Get a Sealant?

Dr. Rita Daghlian typically recommends that children get sealants, typically for the permanent molars as soon as they come in. The permanent molars usually grow in between the ages of 6 and 12. We may also recommend sealants for teenage patients whose teeth are prone to decay or haven’t suffered from decay in the past. We can apply these sealants during a standard appointment at our office
